Tengu Games is an independent game studio based in The Netherlands. Being small and humble, currently it's being run by Matthys van den Berg and Baldi Konijn out of a small studio in Amsterdam
HistoryHow it all began
Tengu Games was founded in 2013 by Matthys van den Berg, Bart Stoop and Baldi Konijn during their final year at Mediacollege Amsterdam. But the earliest trace linking to Tengu Games can be find during their internships. Working together on a project with two other students to make a fun multiplayer game, Offworld, Matthys and Baldi realised they wanted to start their own company to make their own games. The founding
After returning to school they were informed about the Indievelopment student game awards. But with a deadline only one month away they had to work all available hours to be able to finish in time. Finally the deadline came and with only 10 minutes to spare they were able to finish Offworld to such an extent they felt comfortable to submit it. This marked the true beginning of Tengu Games, as Matthys and Baldi approached Bart and asked whether he was feeling adventurous or not. It just turned out that he was!
Three weeks later while attending the Indiedevelopment Awards 2013, to their astonishment they learned that Offworld had won third prize! Together with honorable mentions for Best Art, Best Sound and Most Feature Rich game they were confident they were ready for the next step.Their first: Elementalist
While still working on their graduation project they started brainstorming and then prototyping for their first game. After a few successful prototypes and of course graduating, they started Tengu Games with the ambition to deliver quality games that are fun to play and have stunning visuals. Without funds and working from Baldi's kitchen(office by day, kitchen by night) they were hard at work to finish Elementalist before December 2013. With Elementalist in it's final stages they will soon start to focus on a new project.Recently
After finishing development on Elementalist they came back to Offworld. They gave it a visual overhaul, together with some controls and gameplay tweaking after deciding they didn't want it to gather dust on their hard drives. After giving it some much needed attention,it is now available for free on several platforms.
Of course the brave men of Tengu Games are now looking far into the future. They have started pre production on a very ambitious project, much bigger than they have attempted before. Wish them luck!
